Brantford Power, Brant County Power officially open Powerline Municipal Transformer Station

BRANTFORD, ON – Brantford Power Inc. and Brant County Power Inc. officially opened their joint Powerline Municipal Transformer Station today (April 20) with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Powerline Road facility.

The transformer station, a partnership between the two municipal utilities, is the largest electrical project ever undertaken by local utilities in Brantford and Brant County. It is designed to meet the growing demand for electricity in both communities and significantly improve services to residential, commercial and industrial customers.

Bruce Poland, Chair of Brant County Power, congratulated employees of both utilities for completing the vital project on time and under budget. “Good things happen when you surround yourself with good people,” he said.

Dave Matthews, Chair of Brantford Power, said the transformer station will ensure cost-effective and efficient delivery of electricity for both communities. “Ratepayers in both communities will benefit from this long-term investment for at least 40 years,” he said.

Also participating in the official opening were Lloyd St. Amand, MP for Brant, Brant County Mayor Ron Eddy, Brantford Mayor Mike Hancock, and a representative of Dave Levac, MPP.

TS stations are used to step down electricity from the 115 kilovolts received from Hydro One to 27.6 kilovolts. Using dozens of smaller transformers on their local networks, Brantford Power and Brant County Power further step the voltage down to levels used by industrial, commercial and residential customers.
