Brantford Power, Brant County Power switch on Powerline MTS
BRANTFORD, ON – Brantford Power Inc. and Brant County Power Inc. successfully switched on the new Powerline Municipal Transformer Station (Powerline MTS) on Powerline Road on Tuesday, December 20.
The project, a partnership between the two municipal utilities, is designed to meet the growing demand for electricity in both communities and will significantly improve services to residential, commercial and industrial customers.
George Mychailenko, Brantford Power CEO, said the station will ensure cost-effective and efficient delivery of electricity for both communities. “We’re very pleased that the project was completed on time and under budget. It is the fastest construction time that I am aware of,” he said.
Deborah Sleeth, CEO of Brant County Power, said the joint project gives both utilities greater capacity and efficiency while benefiting from the advantages of local ownership. “By constructing our own substation, the financial benefits will remain with us to fund the development of our distribution infrastructures and operations. It is an excellent example of how the County and the City can benefit by working together," she said.
The new station is located on Powerline Road immediately east of the Brant TS Station.
TS stations are used to step down electricity from the 115 kilovolts received from Hydro One to 27.6 kilovolts. Using dozens of smaller transformers on their local networks, Brantford Power and Brant County Power further step the voltage down to levels used by industrial, commercial and residential customers.
